The past 18 months have challenged us in ways we never imagined possible. For the patients searching for a bone marrow transplant for a second chance at life, the pandemic has made an already difficult time more challenging.
But you can help, without even leaving your couch!
Publicis Groupe is teaming up with Be The Match again to recruit 1,000 new donors to the Be The Match Registry® and raise $75,000 bringing help and hope to those patients who need a transplant to live.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, transplant patients, volunteer couriers and life-saving marrow donors now face unexpected obstacles and financial burdens.
For trips still requiring air travel, over 90% of donor and courier trips are being re-booked more than once, over 20 times in some cases, due to travel restrictions.
The cost of keeping volunteer donors safe and healthy while traveling to their donation center is rising, resulting in an estimated $1M – $6M in additional costs to Be The Match.
Transplant patients are required to have a dedicated caregiver for the first 100 days post-transplant, but many hospitals are restricting visitors to limit the potential spread of COVID-19.
As a direct result of the ongoing pandemic, the number of grants Be The Match has given to patients in 2021 has increased almost 90% over the prior year.
The Be The Match patient assistance program is funded solely through the philanthropic support of our life-saving community. Without their generosity, this critical program wouldn’t be possible.
Sandy Correa (Manager Starcom - Chicago) with her son Ruben. He was a recipient of a stem cell transplant in November 2015 which cured his Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
Charlie Brownell (IT Engineer at Re:Sources) received a stem cell transplant in April 2021. He is in remission from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) with hopes that the SCT will prevent any future relapse.
Second Chance at Life
Under The Power of One, Publicis Groupe will be coming together to host a Be The Match Digital Donor Drive. For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, a cure exists. Over the past 30 years, Be The Match has managed the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world to save lives through transplant. But even with such a large registry, there are still patients who do not have a match.
Our multiplier effect: Creating hope
To address urgent needs due to the global pandemic, Be The Match has established the COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund focused on providing added relief to our transplant patients, life-saving marrow donors and volunteer couriers.
Like many people and organizations during this global crisis, Be The Match is facing new challenges. But life-saving work must continue—it will continue—thanks to the generous support of partners like Publicis Groupe. Together we can bring hope and healing to patients and their families during this unprecedented time.
